“THE WORLDS LONGEST MODEL TRAIN”

EMPIRE BUILDER RAILROAD DESIGNS has for some time been trying to bring home to the USA the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORD for the WORLDS LONGEST MODEL TRAIN.

HISTORY
The current record is held in HO Scale (1:87.1) by Miniature Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany which set the record with 3 locomotives and 887 “carriages” for a length of 361’ 10” or 5.969 scale miles on November 27, 2005.

WHERE
To our knowledge the record has never been attempted in G Scale. The railroad we plan to run it on is the Dynamite, Rio Verde & Eastern Railroad in Scottsdale, AZ which has 3,800 linear feet of track on a double track main, with each main at 1,252 linear feet. Utilizing all 1,252 feet on one main will be 6.91 scale miles and would beat the German record by just short of 1 scale mile.

WHEN
The record run will occur 4/26/08 which is the week prior to the National Garden Railway Convention in Phoenix. If you will be in the Phoenix area for the convention and would like to have a representative of your company on the railroad, or if you have equipment you would like to donate to this momentous event we would love to have you on site, just let us know who your representative is, or if you will be donating a set of USA Trains Intermodal 5 Unit Articulated Well Cars will automatically be a crew member.

HOW
In order to beat the current record we will need 75 sets of USA Trains Intermodal 5 Unit Articulated Well Cars, which would be out of our budget, but with your help, we can all band together and bring the record to the US!

THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO HELP THIS EFFORT:

If you have a set of the USA Trains Intermodal 5 Unit Articulated Well Cars and would love to become a small part of the history of Garden Railroading, here’s what you do:
Send your set of cars to Empire Builder Railroad Designs, 4418 E. Lariat Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85050

We will acknowledge receipt of your units with a numbered certificate.
Your units will also be numbered and put in the consist in order of receipt i.e. If your units are the first donated, they will be first in the consist, etc.
You will receive a video of the run and showing your units.
Your units will be returned to you within 2 weeks of the run.
With your units, you will receive a certified certificate that your units were indeed a part of The Worlds Longest Model Train.
Containers are not required, however if you have containers for your well cars and would like them shown on the train with your logo, name or some other advertisement, we would prefer 40’ containers.
All donated equipment will be refit with Kadee Couplers for consitency purposes

**** Equipment sent directly from you to Empire Builder Railroad Designs and postmarked prior to March 11, 2008 will be returned to you at no charge. If your equipment is postmarked AFTER March 11, 2008, please include a check for return postage.

If you don’t have a set of USA Trains Intermodal 5 Unit Articulated Well Cars and would love to make your mark in the history book of Garden Railroading:

St. Aubins has agreed to sell you the set and mail them directly to Empire Builder Railroad Designs.
We will acknowledge receipt of your units with a numbered certificate.

After the run, your units will be returned to St. Aubins and they will mail them to you with your certificate and video.

You are welcome to logo or identify your cars in any manner you choose as long as it is not offensive. Empire Builder reserves the right to determine what is and/or is not offensive, so keep it clean.
We are making every effort to have as much press coverage as possible at this event in order to document effectively for Guinness.
Additionally we will be looking for “Engineers” and volunteers the day of the run so Mrs. Rick the Railroad Guy will be taking names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses in order to keep those interested abreast of what is going on.
